Problem - NME wanted to shift tactics and market their latest magazine to a new audience. An audience who’s interested in the storytelling aspects of music journalism and the creative process behind the music. Solution - Removing the dark, chaos from NME’s origins, this project doesn’t shy away from the vulnerability of artists and puts the focus back onto them. Centralised imagery on the cover and direct gaze from the artist, creates an instant bond between the muse and reader. The article pays homage to notable jazz album covers and the lively type lockup and illustrations communicate the spirit of this genre.
